Armed With A Mind |
I've got the vegan straight edge. Tumblr is my release when the rest of the world has their eyes and ears closed to the things that need to be said. I hope to change the world, it might seem unrealistic, but I don't see my options. I have a boyfriend and hes better than you, so no i wont send you noodz. |
drvgxnite asked: things like hallucinogenic drugs that really can help you open your mind to the world and change your outlook on life? for me it has always been in a positive way.
I feel you, my problem is not really recreational drug/alcohol use.
I choose straightedge as a representation of my full opposition to societies stance on alcohol and drug use. My problem with it is that it is now expected and normal in the western world to get wasted every weekend or even throughout the week. How do you have time to think in your own mind? 9-5 youre working, 6-10 youre drinking to forget about it, you go to sleep and do it all again tomorrow. People are too drunk to realise how fucked the world is. How much they hate their jobs, how pointless their lives have been etc. People have a lot of potential when they are angry or upset with how things are, but instead of doing anything about it, we drink til we forget about it and get over it. Fuck that. And I hate that it is wierd to choose not to put unhealthy shit into your body and do literally nothing all night somewhere that would have been boring without the drinks.
If once a month you take some drug to think about something from a different perspective, thats cool, I wouldnt do it that way but its personal choice and unless you fuck it up, it probably not going to kill you any more quickly thanany macdonalds people eat is.
Its all personal choice and I dont have a problem with people on the day to day. I just hate that on the whole, youre wierd if you dont want to kill your brain cells at every chance you get when there is so much more to enjoy jn the world and so many problems that need our attention. Hope this kind of answers your question, im on my phone so I cant see what im writing properly haha
I don’t care who does what with their bodies in the individual sense.
On the whole, I believe that society is far too reliant on drugs and alcohol for weekly survival and fun. I think its an easy way to escape fucked up things in your life and I think its an easy way to forget little things like how boring your job is
In this sense it inhibits people, instead of getting home from your shitty job and trying to find a way to change your life and do something with doing, people come home, have a few beers, forget about it and do it all again.
Other than that I believe there is so much beauty, adventure, fun, so much to discover, so many people to meet, so many stories to hear, so many conversations to be had, not to mention the ton of shit that needs to be fixed, in the world we have. Yet people spend every weekend lost in a different world, in a different self etc trying to do something ‘fun’ and ‘different’ to their boring week that they miss every part of this.
I just don’t understand. I believe there are far more fun things as well as far more important things our brain power, time and effort should be getting put into.
Straight Edge because I need to think clearly to achieve the most for myself and this world.
Where’s my cool hardcore listenin’, vegan fightin’, straight edge reppin’ best girl friend?

Straight edge cos we don’t want to belong!
Henry Rollins (via simply-quotes)
I put my hand up and said hippies might become depressed thinking about how much wrong there is in the world and feeling like its their responsibility to change it.
Everyone thought that was funny.
This is my life, right now.
saviorwings asked: i searched up some tag and came across your long straight edge something answer. so i wanted to ask you, can you give me the exact or nearest definition of straight edge. is it just a person who doesn't smoke/drink/do drugs?
I’ll do the best I can. I’m sure someone will tell me I expect too much from it haha, but here are the basics.
Straight Edge is a life long commitment to never doing drugs, smoking, drinking, or being involved in promiscuous sex (getting sexually involved with a person you have no respect or feelings for, using them for sex and or allowing yourself to be used).
But really that’s just shit a person does
Actual straight edge, the reason it needs a name, the reason people think its worth getting tattooed on them, is a movement against how lightly drug use is taken in our society. You turn 12, you start drinking, have your first cigarette, start planning the girls you’re going to fuck and all that changes from then on is you grow up a little, get a job you hate and then drinking and smoking are no longer recreational choices, theyre your weekly saviours to forget about how shit and boring your actual life is.
This is not everyone obviously, but there are countless people literally doing nothing on the weekends but thinking they had a kick ass time because they stood somewhere different drinking beer and staring at girls they don’t even like.
Straight Edge is about recognising how substances bring us down, how when your life is shit, instead of realising its shit, you stand in a bar on the weekend with some people destroyig your mind and forgetting about it instead of thinking about how to make it better. Straight Edge is trying to educate other people on the alternative. On actually making life better, not just forgetting how shit it is.
Of course. People get REALLY fucking offended when you decide you don’t want to live the way they do, so the Edge community is also a place for friends to feel safe to talk about their opinions, to live comfortably drug free, a label to stop the constant ‘but why don’t you just have one drink?’ Peer pressure bullshit.
There’s a big difference between someone who’s just sober because they want to feel in control and a person whow is making a stand against the whole over relaxed attitude to drug use. If person one had a drink every few years, it wouldn’t matter. Straight Edge is for life because were proving a point, were showing how unnecessary drugs and alcohol are. To give in, even once would weaken our arguement a lot. But it happens and I almost can’t blame those people, Straight Edge is a never ending life of getting shit from everyone. But its always worth it.
Hope this helps.
thescoon asked: I think it really depends on the person. Choosing to be edge is of course a personal choice first and foremost. What you choose to do to promote it is up to you though, in my opinion. Some people want to just quietly go about their life with no desire to step into the limelight or want to make a change beyond just themselves. I mean, it's a pretty overwhelming thing to do; making a change. Others really want to put themselves out there, and that's awesome too. It's all change after all.
Sobriety is a great choice regardless of what you plan to do with it. And I will respect anyone who chooses to be sober for themselves.
However. Straight Edge IS a movement, it is meant to be a place where people can find confidence in choosing differently of course, but then spreading that confidence to others who need it is incredibly important.
If you see no problem with drugs, alcohol etc aside from health issues or simply feel that its not for you, then straight edge is also not for you.
Straight edge is for those who see that the problems are wide spread and believe that education is required to show people alternatives and the difference between choosing something because you want it and choosing it because its in front of you and everyone else does it and it makes life easy.
If you want the label, the safety, the group feeling of being Straight Edge you need to be willing to extend that hand to others that need it as they have to you.
Beyond that, there is really no point advocating a clear mind, a release from the opression of substances if you are only going to sit back while a million other forms of oppression control your life and the world around you.
Straight Edge is a serious commitment and if you can commit to straight edge, you’re committing to a cause already. Which means everything else that comes with free thought should be right up your ally.
Being part of a ‘movement’ is not just about a nice shiny label and a place to feel safe in your choices, its about moving forward.
Straight Edge Is not about being sober just for yourself. It is about opening your mind to see the destruction drug use and abuse causes to our already crooked world. And doing something about it. Leading by example to present a positive alternative.
But Straight Edge is a means to an end. It is not the end. Yet so many people choose Straight Edge and then that’s it. That’s the extent of their efforts. Congratulations, youre sober. Now what?
We have all these free and clear minds, yet they’re achieving nothing.
A sober mind has the time and ability to think and see what is wrong with this world. Not just drug abuse, but the many forms of oppression and destruction.
Drugs hold people back right?
If this is your arguement, you need to prove that your sobriety is worth something. You can’t be held back if you weren’t achieving anything in the first place.
Edge kids. Open your mind again. There is so much you’re ignoring.
… Maybe because like every fucking person in this world I like to listen to lyrics I can relate to?
I found self confidence, in my sobriety! I found a place where I feel safe, a testament against the grain!Ok so I thought it was time that i answered a few questions that I have been getting about why I chose to claim edge.
So here goes!
